Southbank Centre marked 75 years by teaming up with renowned poet Lemn Sissay, four poet educators and schools across London, Manchester and Birmingham.
In this project we worked with over 2,300 school children resulting in an ambitious public installation and a performance with Michael Rosen at the Royal Festival Hall.
Working with the Sociology department at University of Sheffield and Tottenham residents to examine the relationship between informal sport and urban inclusion in increasingly superdiverse and increasingly unequal cities as part of the Just Turn Up project. This residency spanned May-Aug and output included four poems, local workshops within the communities taking part and an event in Sheffield.
London Overground: Suffragette Line Opening
I was invited by South Tottenham Overground Station to write a poem to celebrate the opening of the Suffragette Line. I chose to write about Ada Mary Weymark, a local activist and suffragette of which very little is recorded of. I then ran a workshop in the station’s beautiful community garden. The poem was put on public display and iwas added to the Bruce Castle Archive.
St. John Vianney RC School: Our Road Project
A set of 6 workshops with years 5 + 6 at St John Vianney School in Tottenham, writing about West Green Rd. This project was inspired by Benjamin Zephaniah’s poem ‘Soho Road’ and aimed to get year 6 ready to say goodbye to their neighbours as they prepared for secondary. Output was a school display and performance.
